I hope everyone had a relatively dry weekend and got some good riding in. I
will make this note as short and clear as I can. I am exhausted after a
long day of watching both kids... Boy does my wife work hard while I am off
making all the big (cough) money!!!
Here is the "stuff" calendar - albeit a bit out of order...
Monday, 5/23: The Cedar Grove Bike Night is on regardless of weather. If
it is a hurricane out there, I will still be there in the car to have dinner
with anyone willing to trek out and meet. Jim Dandy's will start hosting us
as early as we show up and as late as we want to stay within reason. They
also added a "Buy 12 wings, get 6 free" special for Mondays from what I'm
hearing. Give them a ring at (973) 239-1400 if you have any questions.
Saturday, 5/21: The 2005 Bug Run with the NE_VROC crowd was great. I
forgot how fast those guys like to run (Mack - You would have lost those
chicken strips and then some!). I also forgot how much fun it is to ride
with a group when you are not in front worrying about those behind you all
day... We all had a great time. There were 18 people total from what I
recall. We left Portland, PA with 17, made our way to Hancock for lunch,
found a secondary eatery as the location we had chosen was closed, ordered
food, waited, waited, waited... then ate. Departed and took 97 South. Hit
some minor rain on the way down - mostly water shooting up from the guy in
front off the wet road - and stopped in Milford (I think) for a final gas
up. As we were shooting down 97 South (and periodically losing and
re-finding the VStrom crowd that joined all of us Vulcan riders for the day)
we passed another biker on a VStrom. "Pelican" Mike was apparently out for a
ride and decided to see if he could find us. He did! Amazing thing is that
he had more bugs on him than all of us combined. The Bug Run is named after
a ride the NE_VROC crowd took a few years ago along this route where they
encountered bug swarms that looked like fog...
We had riders from Southern, NJ (Jersey Devil VROC club - if you have a
Vulcan and live down that way, visit http://tinyurl.com/9tatr and tell them
I sent ya!). We had riders from Northern, NJ. We had riders from Eastern,
PA. We even had a rider from Binghamton, NY join us. All in all, we had a
great day. I logged a decent 280+ miles and stayed relatively dry. The
Southern, NJ folks got close to 400 miles in some cases and 13+ hours.
Our next "official" ride is Sunday, 6/12: Tentative plans are to do a Zeus
Burger run to the Clinton Station Diner. Details to be posted soon.
Probably a run down, lunch and a run back for me... But I know for sure the
JDC-VROC crowd wanted to swing around the area and ride some so it won't be
boring. I'm going to copy the NEVROC and JDC crew FYI so those who want to
eat... er... um... I mean so that those who want to ride can join us for
sure. $100 to anyone who can finish off the 7 lb. burger alone in 3 hours -
bun and toppings included. I'll write the check myself. Really.... I
will.
See you on the road soon! Ride safe, ride far and enjoy life!
