Yesterday was a nice day... A bit cooler than I expected, but really nice.
Left the house at around 6:45 AM to go get air in the tires (or at least
check them). The Valk has held its tire pressure steady for a year and a
half - never needing to be topped off, but I check it periodically because
its the right thing to do!
Anyhow... The route for those of you familiar with the areas we hit...
Home, up route 23 to Pompton Plains. Stop to meet a friend on his Ultra
Classic. Depart and head up 23 North to 287 East. 287 East to the NY State
Thruway for just a little bit and then onto 17. Took 17 all the way to
Binghamton, NY and then into Endicott. Had lunch. Turn around and reverse
same route.
Mostly "highway" but curvy, empty, desolate, hill filled highway. Very nice
ride, especially as you go through the Liberty / Roscoe area. Got home at
4:59 PM, just shy of my 5:00 mandate from the better half.
For those of you who have been asking for more details, I give you the
following information. It may not be exactly what you had in mind, but here
ya go!
374.3 miles total (finally got the GPS hooked up to the bike)
Driving average speed 56.5 MPH
Overall average 42.1 MPH
True riding time, 6 hours, 37 minutes, 22 seconds.
Bike sitting still with GPS on (lights, restaurant where I forgot to turn it
off, gas stops, etc) 2 hours, 15 minutes, 36 seconds.
Top speed 93.2 MPH (That darn chopper on 23 South just HAD to challenge the
six cylinder guy with his full textile riding gear and the GPS... He'll
think twice next time. <G>) After 6 hours of putting along at legal
speeds, the guy on my other shoulder got the best of me.
Had a blast. Ate some horrible food (you Binghamton folk think Speedies are
food?!?)
Can't wait to take a long ride that isn't semi-highway filled. See you on
the road soon!
